💡 When submitting a copy of an ID, hide the sensitive digits of your ID number here first, then use the watermark toolto stamp "For submission to ___" across it — that cuts the risk of misuse dramatically.
Both hide information, but they work differently and are not equally safe. Choose based on how sensitive the information is.

⚠️ When hiding numbers or text, mosaic is safer than blur. There are documented cases of lightly blurred text being recovered by restoration algorithms. After hiding sensitive data, always zoom in and confirm it really is unreadable.
No. Both the original and the result are handled entirely in browser memory and are never sent to a server. Close the page and the image is gone from memory. That makes it safe for sensitive images like ID cards and financial screenshots.
While you're working, "Undo" and "Reset all" will roll changes back. But once the file is downloaded the mosaic cannot be removed, because the pixel information itself is gone. If you may need the original, keep a separate copy of it.
Mosaic actually destroys the pixel information, so at sufficient strength it is effectively impossible to reverse. Blur, however, leaves some information behind, and a light blur can potentially be undone by AI tools. For sensitive data like ID or account numbers, use mosaic at strength 3 or higher and zoom in afterward to confirm it can't be read.
Everything outside the areas you covered keeps its original resolution and pixels. Editing happens on a full-size canvas, and saving as PNG preserves it losslessly. Saving as JPG encodes at 92% quality.
For rectangular things like plates, "Area select" is easiest — drag diagonally around the plate and the whole rectangle is mosaicked at once. For plates at an angle, brushing gives a cleaner result.
